ABOUT THIS WORK

'TWO SIDES || OF THE SAME COIN' was graciously funded a trumpet consortium in the summer of 2022, spearheaded by Andrew Harms, and made possible by the following generous musicians, to whom I owe great thanks: Derek Ganong, Morgen Low, Adrian Holton, Jason Bergman, Jason Bergman, Erika Izaguirre, Raquel Samayoa, Ryan Nottingham, Daniel Flores, Joel Brennan, Ashley Killam, Louie Eckhardt, Connor Johnson, Chloe Lolar, John Landis, Logan Wooden, Noa Miller, Alexandria Smith, Andrew Wood and Hollyn Slykhuis.

INSTRUMENTATION

The work can be played in one of the following formats, variations thereof, or several other combinations not listed below:

  • Solo trumpet (Bb or C)
  • Trumpet with electronics/capture pedal
  • Trumpet with accompaniment (live or fixed)
  • Trumpet with accompaniment (live or fixed) and electronics/capture pedal
  • Completely acoustically, with live performers on each part
  • Completely electronically, using sound samples of your choosing

The accompaniment track involves both quarter notes and pedal markings but neither need to be realized if being played with a piano with standard tuning, for example, or an electric bass. Additionally, the octave doubling may be reduced if necessary.
