Five works hold this chapter. A communications room at the edge of the audible. A phone that catches the listener listening. A nocturne for the hours after the gallery closes. A cycle of illuminated atmospheres. A live performance series distributed through public libraries. The works combine listening with telephone interaction, concert performance, and movement through a site.
The visitor moves through it, adjusts it, overhears it. Signal, silence, instruction, interruption, mis-listening — arranged as weather, not as narrative. Communication itself is the building material.
Telephone installations invite visitors to choose what they hear. The Library Series places musicians throughout public libraries. Chasing Light brings photography-inspired chamber music into concert, staged presentation, and recording.
The work traverses the affective terrain between tragedy and ecstasy, fragility and strength — romantic intimacy and the spectacular darkness of the macabre, arranged at the scale of a room. Haunted by ghosts and/of love; coloristically attuned to the mysteries of irrationality, nightmare, and memory.
